英米の「レコード・ストア・デイ2018」レポートが公開。アメリカでは過去最高のレコード売上げを記録

調査会社ニールセン・ミュージックが、アメリカの「レコード・ストア・デイ2018」についてのレポートを公開しました。4月21日に開催され、今年で11年目を迎えたレコード・ストア・デイでは、4月19日〜4月26日までの一週間で計733,000枚ものレコードアルバムの売上げを記録しました。これは、これまでのレコード・ストア・デイにおいて、もっとも多い売上げ枚数です。

ニールセン・ミュージックは1991年からアメリカにおけるレコードの売上げを記録しています。これまで販売枚数がもっとも多かったのが2017年12月14日〜21日の811,000枚、次に多かったのが2015年12月17日〜24日の753,000枚で、どちらもクリスマスの時期に記録されています。

レコード・ストア・デイ2018では、アルバムとシングルを合わせた58万枚のレコードが、インディペンデントの小売店で販売され、週の総売上げ枚数の25％を占めています。これを受けて、この週のインディペンデント・レコードストアでの売上げは、200%も増加しています。

この数は小売部門でのレコード売上げ枚数が、過去最高であったことを示しています。販売業全体でも、レコードアルバムのセールスは前週に比べて17%上昇しており、今年で一番の伸び率を記録しています。

アメリカでもっとも販売枚数が多かったアルバムは、Bruce Springsteenの「Greatest Hits」でした。2位はDavid Bowieの「Welcome to the Blackout(Live London ’78)」、3位はNeil Youngの「Tonight’s the Night-Live at the Roxy」となっています。

シングルでは、Led Zeppelinの7インチシングル「Friends/Rock and Roll」 が1位を獲得。David Bowie「Let’s Dance」のデモをフルレングス・バージョンで収録した12インチシングルが2位、3位にはSufjan Stevenのクリア盤10インチシングル「Mystery of Love」がランクインしています。

イギリスでもレコード・ストア・デイは盛況です。Official Charts Companyは、レコード・ストア・デイでのレコードの売上げが、前年比16%アップしたと伝えています。イギリスではアルバム6万枚、シングル3万枚が販売され、David Bowieの「Welcome to the Blackout」が1位を獲得しています。

これらのレポートから、海外におけるレコード人気は依然として高いことがわかります。また、amazonなどのECサイトで商品を購入することが多いなか、個人店などの小売店での売上げが増加していることは、とても嬉しいニュースと言えます。これは、レコード店の活性化を目的としているレコード・ストア・デイにとって、とても価値のある結果と言えます。
